But the truth is, I saw the latest HP movie yesterday, and this was my gut-level, emotional response to Dolores Umbridge.Leave a comment
Dolores Umbridge was sitting at her desk drinking tea, kittens a-mew on the wall behind her, going over the bloody lines she'd had those naughty, whiny first-years write. Ah, discipline. It gave her such a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
Suddenly, her good north light was blocked as something came between her and the window. Or rather, came through the window, and was now crouched in the frame like a large, sly-eyed, scruffy-bearded bird.
She snatched at her wand--and watched it fly across the room, into her visitor's hand.
Sylar glanced at it, looked at Dolores, and cocked his head, staring in the general area of her hairline. "Mmmm," he said, eyes gleaming covetously. "...magic."
He stepped down into the room.

So. I suddenly have a deadline.
For a novel.
In seven months! O_o
I’ve set myself a minimum goal of 1000 words a day. I actually made it yesterday. I want to put the results up, but every single bit would have to be friendslocked on a writing journal because I’m trying to publish it. If anyone’s interested, I can post links here as I go, but you’ll have to friend the journal in question. Sorry about the paranoia, but under publishing laws even blogging a novel is “publishing” if you leave it open for public perusal.

Hi guys. My name's Becca, I'm the maintainer, and I started this group so folks I knew could have a place to share their stuff around and do the writergeek thing.
I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, I've had a few short stories and nonfiction articles published, I've worked on a magazine staff as an editor, and I'm a gamer geek. I do some poetry, but most of my stuff is fiction--largely short stories.
If you had to stick my stuff in one box it'd probably be something left-field like "literary horror" or "literary dark fantasy". Truth is, I've done everything from gut-ripping, socially-critical splatterfests to very silly fantasy.
Most of my writing is character-based. I develop a character, their history and situation, and often find them doing things I didn't expect but which make for good story. In the case of many short stories, however, things become plot-based instead.
I'm currently working on a short non-supernatural thriller. I joined writemore to get my per-week word count up, and am now shooting for 1500 words a week.
Anyone else want to introduce themselves?

|panteraonca||Jun. 28th, 2007 02:21 pm OK, so, community statement of purpose thingie or whatever|
Right. Ok. So. Basically this is a place for people to talk writing, share writing around, ask for betas, geek about their characters, post publishing opportunities and otherwise do all things writerly. Here are the basic rules:Leave a comment
1. I don't give a damn whether it's fanfic, regular fic, poetry or whatever.
2. Please put the splatterpunk and smutty goodness behind a cut.
3. Don't bash anyone or their work.
4. Friendslock entries for anything you might want to actually publish.
Well...that's it. I'll be adding to the geekage myself either later today or tomorrow.
